Larry had gotten a fellowship from Harvard to study pretty much anything he wanted to study anywhere in Europe for a year, all expenses paid.

 

Since he was working on a Ph.D. thesis about the German playwright Bertolt Brecht, he chose to find out what influences Spain had on Brecht's work. While extensively exploring the beaches and restaurants of Spain's Mediterranean coast, he found none.
